Business Units

This area is available to tenant administrators and global administrators.

Business units organize your tenant into a hierarchy — for example, different departments, regions, or lines of business. Every piece of data (patients, tasks, guidelines, etc.) belongs to one or more business units. A user can only access data within the business units they are assigned to.

Viewing the Business Unit Tree

Open the Business Units tab inside the tenant detail page. You will see a tree view displaying your business unit hierarchy. Each node shows:

  • Name — the display name of the business unit.
  • Description — an optional description (shown in grey beside the name).
  • Status — a chip showing whether the unit is active or inactive.

Nodes with child units show a chevron icon on the left. Select the chevron to expand or collapse the children.

Creating a Business Unit

  1. On the Business Units tab, select Add Business Unit (or the equivalent add button at the level where you want to create it).
  2. Enter a Name and optional Description.
  3. Choose the Parent business unit if this new unit should sit below an existing one. Leave the parent blank to create a top-level unit.
  4. Save the form. The new unit appears in the tree at the appropriate level.

Editing a Business Unit

Each row in the tree has an Edit (pencil icon) button on the right side. Select it to open the edit form where you can update the name, description, parent, or status.

After making changes, save the form to apply them.

Deleting a Business Unit

The Delete (trash icon) action is visible to global administrators only. Selecting it removes the business unit. You cannot delete a unit that still has data (patients, tasks, etc.) assigned to it — reassign or archive that data first.

How Business Units Affect Data Access

When you assign a user to one or more business units, they can only see records that belong to those units (or units below them in the hierarchy, depending on your configuration). This means:

  • A user assigned only to “Region West” does not see patients assigned to “Region East.”
  • Tenant administrators bypass business unit restrictions and can see all data.

When creating records (patients, guidelines, tasks, etc.), the system assigns them to the creator’s active business unit by default. Make sure users are assigned to the correct unit before they start creating records.
